The Globe Inn reopened as a joint venture between national pub company Punch and local publican, Sue Bloxham in April of this year (2017).
Sue is no stranger to either the pub trade or Somerton, where she is well known to many as the former head chef at the Unicorn Hotel and previously landlady of the Market Bar and Bistro (listed in The Good Food Guide within the first 4 months of opening), an achievement she is hoping to emulate at The Globe. After a successful venture at the Old Inn in Holton, near Wincanton, Sue is pleased to have returned to Somerton amongst family and friends.
Supporting Sue in various roles are her children, creating a family business and a familiar face alongside newly appointed staff members.
Sue said ‘I am really looking forward to being back in Somerton and building a reputation for first class food and hospitality at the Globe. It is a great pub and this investment will really unlock the potential in all areas of trade’.
In addition to a range of seasonal, locally sourced and freshly prepared menus, The Globe will serve a selection of quality wines, spirits and beers including cask ales. Spirit revivals will also feature in the newly refurbished bar alongside a seasonal cocktail menu.
The function room with bar and lounge area, skittle alley and a garden marquee is also available to hire.
Publican Development and Training Manager for Punch, Helena Desave says ‘This investment will significantly improve the facilities at The Globe whilst retaining all of its charm and characters. Sue is a fantastic chef and publican and we look forward to supporting her in this exciting project’.
